Customer story: Ondřej (45), collagen and functional mushrooms after knee surgery

Ondřej is 45 and has been riding bikes for 30 years. In October he had his anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed after a crash on a trail. The surgery went without complications. What followed was anything but straightforward. Here is his six-month fight to get back in the saddle.

Customer story: Ondřej (45), collagen and functional mushrooms after knee surgery

The beginning: rehab, boredom and the first unpleasant surprise

“After the surgery I knew I was in for half a year.” Ondřej started rehabilitation on the standard protocol: physiotherapy twice a week, resistance-band exercises at home, no load for the first 4 weeks.

What surprised him was the fatigue. “I didn’t expect the surgery to crush my energy like that. I slept 9 hours and woke up feeling like I’d just finished a four-hour ride.” The rehab was stagnating. Ondřej started looking for something to complement it and decided to try collagen, and later functional mushrooms, as part of his diet.

Month 2: collagen and the first stability

Ondřej started with collalloc collagen, one sachet (3,300 mg) a day, dissolved each morning in his favourite cold drink (collagen is never mixed into hot drinks, heat disrupts its structure). After three weeks he noticed two things.

First: the knee was less swollen in the evening. “Before bed it no longer felt puffed up, as if I’d been riding on it all day.” That was his subjective impression over the course of the routine.

Second: his nails. “This was a genuine side discovery. Suddenly I wasn’t trimming my nails every week. They held.”

Month 3: adding collalloc MIND

The fatigue wasn’t letting up. Ondřej decided to add collalloc MIND. “It wasn’t about the brain. It was about wanting my energy back. Chaga and Cordyceps made sense to me.”

After 4 weeks of the second routine: “My morning energy stabilised. I didn’t need two coffees just to get into the car. And in the evening I fell asleep earlier. I can’t describe it better than this: my body stopped fighting itself.”

Month 6: back on the bike

Six months after the surgery, Ondřej rode his first trail in 90 minutes. “No fanfare. No euphoria. I just noticed the knee was holding and I didn’t need a second coffee to get going.”

His physiotherapist confirmed the rehabilitation had progressed faster than the original prognosis. “He said it isn’t just the collagen. But that the collagen certainly didn’t slow things down.”

What Ondřej’s story tells us

Collagen after knee surgery is not a miracle shortcut or a medicine. Ondřej added it, together with the functional mushrooms Cordyceps and Chaga, as a supplement to his diet during his return to form. What exactly helped and what was simply time and honest rehab, he can’t untangle, and he doesn’t claim to.

Ondřej stresses: “Don’t expect a miracle. Expect it to be just a little less hard. For me, that was enough.”

Conclusion

Recovery after knee surgery is a combination of physical rehabilitation, nutrition and time. Neither collagen nor functional mushrooms enter that equation as a medicine. Ondřej took them as a supplement to his diet, nothing more and nothing less.
